State retirees who now receive premium-free state health insurance would have to start paying for their coverage under a bill that cleared the Illinois House Wednesday.
The House vote was 74-43. The bill now goes to the Senate.

The state of Illinois owed vendors, hospitals, local government, schools and others nearly $5.6 billion at the end of March, according to the state comptroller, but one Springfield nonprofit says it's more worried about potential Medicaid cuts than what the state owes.
The amount of unpaid bills is up by $1.3 billion since the end of December, according to state Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka's report for the third quarter of the state fiscal year.
