Eighteen-year-old Natalie Nordstrom has more on her agenda than just summer fun.
Nordstrom, a marketing major at Evangel University in Springfield, Mo., is leasing the Big Muddy Amusement Park.
Chris Grither owns the land but is uninterested in running the mini-golf course and go-cart track on the property. Nordstrom is one of Grither's former employees and offered to lease it from him over the summer.
"I'm interested in social business," Nordstrom said, "But it's not all about me making money."
Nordstrom's father pastors Christ Community Church in Murphysboro. She said she has been involved with the community her whole life and feels this park can make a difference by offering children with alternative entertainment.
"Kids can do something without getting themselves into trouble," Nordstrom said.
The college sophomore will be managing the amusement park and has four employees working for her.
Grand opening weekend will kick-off Friday, May 14 at 3 p.m. Special rates of $4 per go-cart ride are available May 14-16. Regular rates of $6 will apply starting May 17.
The Big Muddy Amusement Park is located east of Hardee's on Route 13 in Murphysboro and will be open until August 31.
