The name of the popular Murphysboro Christmas Stroll has been changed and has now been replaced with Murphysboro Hometown Christmas. The committee for the Murphysboro Hometown Christmas came to the decision at their meeting last week. They have also adopted a new logo.
Sharon Johnson, chairperson of the committee said the change was needed. “When you say in your name that you are a Christmas Stroll, people expect to be on a limited walking tour of a neighborhood or downtown area but our Murphysboro Hometown Christmas encompasses much more than just lights and decorations.”
Johnson went on to say that there is an opportunity for people to “stroll” through the historic Logan Neighborhood and take in the art by starting at the Hughes Gallery to see painters, potters, glass blowers and many others displaying and offering unique items to the public. The Logan Neighborhood is on and around Edith Street between 16th and 17th Streets.Ê
Shoppers may also want to stop in downtown Murphysboro at the Davis-McCann Building for the One-Stop Holiday Shop. This site is a dream come true for those tried and true holiday buyers as well as those that are looking for a way to avoid the after Thanksgiving Day rush. Over twenty home-based businesses will be displaying great gift ideas from jewelry to toys, makeup to treats. This mini-mall is the perfect stop for every Christmas shopper.
Another venue, the Festival of Wreaths and Trees is located in the Murphysboro Middle School cafeteria and visitors are invited to come and bid on trees and wreaths for various charities. The creations feature beautifully decorated wreaths, trees and will have live holiday.
Lastly the Murphysboro Hometown Christmas lets you take a peek inside elegantly decorated homes throughout Murphysboro. For a small five-dollar admission fee, community members open their doors and welcome visitors.
The new logo was a team effort with several ideas and names considered. Johnson said, “The logo is a perfect fit. It has a very distinct contemporary look that is friendly and whimsical and represents the community and holiday season well.”
It will be used in posters and advertisements for the event.ÊÊ
The Murphysboro Hometown Christmas is scheduled for December 6th and 7th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
The One-Stop Holiday Shop will be open December 6th and 7th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
