Immanuel Lutheran school of Murphysboro will celebrate Lutheran School Week March 7th through 13th with a wide variety of fun activities and an open house on Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. "Each day will have a theme designed for the children to have fun, but our overall theme is taken from 1 Corinthians 12:15, with an emphasis on servanthood," said Principal David Manning.
Several fundraisers will be held in conjunction with the celebration. "Our kids are raising funds for Lutheran World Relief for Haiti and our goal is $500. We have raised $450 through our chapel offerings," said Principal Manning. The students will also be raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society with a Pennies for Patients fundraiser. "I personally had an opportunity this past fall when my Grandfather got Leukemia and was traveling to Springfield for treatments to meet some of the children who are battling this illness. The cause was on my heart, so when I got a phone call from the Society asking if our school could do a fundraiser, I thought that this would be the perfect time to implement the fundraiser."
For a set donation, students will be able to do everything from tape Mr. Manning to the wall, throw a shaving cream soaked sponge at him, or hit him with a water balloon. They will also have a quarter board day, which in addition to raising funds, teaches the children about graphs and popular vote. And on Friday, if all the donations for Pennies for Patients equals or surpasses $500, the winning class's teacher will get to shave off Mr. Manning's goatee. If all donations equal or surpass $1000, the winning class's teacher will get to shave Mr. Manning's head.
Throughout the week the children will have Pajama Day, Sports Day/Hat Day, Crazy Clash Day, and School Spirit Day.
"This week is just a neat opportunity to celebrate the existence of Lutheran Schools, and the ministry they do not only for  families, but the community as a whole," said Principal Manning
