Bond was set at $500,000 for two Murphysboro men that were taken into custody last week in connection with an incident that took place at 1169 W. Harrison Road.
Travis A. Bramlett, 22, and Joshua M. Peeler, 27, were taken into custody and charged with home invasion, aggravated battery, mob action and aggravated criminal sexual assault.
Bramlett and Peeler are alleged to have entered a residence at 1169 W. Harrison Road and intentionally caused injury to Larry D. Miller, 51, and Michael L. Yates, 57.
Miller and Yates were both taken to St. Joseph's Memorial Hospital for treatment of their injuries. Yates was then airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital.
Rumors were flying around over the weekend that Yates had died from his injuries.
"Put to rest the rumors that Mike Yates has died,'' said Seargant Mike O'Leary of the Jackson County Sheriff's Department. "The information that we have is that he is still at St. Louis University Hospital."
Miller was treated for his injuries and released from St. Joseph's Memorial Hospital the day after the incident.
Bramlett and Peeler are both charged with two counts of home invasion (Class X felony), two counts of aggravated battery (Class 3 felony), two counts of mob action (Class 4 felony), and three counts aggravated criminal sexual assault (Class X felony).
The charges of aggravated criminal sexual assault stem, according to court documents, from Bramlett and Peeler inserting an object into the anus of Yates.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Department is continuing to investigate the incident. According to O'Leary, the case has been referred to the Jackson County State's Attorney Office.
Bramlett and Peeler made their first court appearance last Thursday, where their bond was set at $500,000 apiece. They will make their next appearance in court on May 8 at 8:30 a.m. at the Jackson County Courthouse.
