Art lovers, as well as wine lovers, can look no further than Riverside Park in Murphysboro this weekend, where the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail Art and Wine Festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday.
The event runs from noon until 6 p.m. each day. Tickets are $10 in advance, and $13 at the gate, $6 without wine tasting. Advance tickets and other information are available at the event website at www.shawneefest.com, or at the Murphysboro Chamber of Commerce, located at 203 S. 13th Street.
The Murphysboro Chamber of Commerce is handling the event.
"It's a good deal,'' said Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Bruce Wallace. "We're going to approach 20 artists. Everything else is already set."
Including the weather, which is forecast to be pretty good during the two days.
"The weather is always a determining factor in the number of people that attend," Wallace said. "The people will always come, but there will be more if the weather is good."
Wallace said that in previous years between 1,200 and 1,500 attended the two-day event. He is hoping for more than that this year.
"We've done additional promotion for it, and the weather is supposed to be good,'' Wallace said. "We're looking to get 1,000 visitors each day. That would be terrific if we could get that."
People that do attend will be treated to several artists displaying their work, local wineries featuring their wines, food and entertainment.
Artists expected to be at the festival include, Thomas Casey, Brenda S. Cooley, Dianne Conover, Dave Dardis, Michael Czerwonka, Heather Lafoon, Tom Lawless, Mary Patterson, Nicole Roundtree-Mileur, Tom Horn, Pamela Graham, Condy Kretz and Charlotte Hill.
Among the wineries that will be attendance are, Alto Vineyards, Blue Sky Vineyard, Hedman Vineyard, Hickory Ridge Vineyard, Inheritance Valley, Kite Hill Vineyards, Orlandini Vineyards, Owl Creek Vineyard, Pomona Winery, Rustle Hill Winery, StarView Vineyards and Von Jakob Vineyard.
The festival will feature six hours of music on each day. On Saturday, Wil Maring will play noon, and be followed by the Kevin Lucas Orchestra at 3 p.m. The Giant City Slickers will kick off the entertainment at noon on Sunday, followed at 3 p.m. by the Ivas John Band.
