Health and Cultural Fair set for Feb. 27

A Health and Cultural Fair co-sponsored by The African American Museum, Jackson County Health Department, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and University Mall will be held at the University Mall (across from the Food Court) on Saturday, February 27, 2010.
Health screenings will be provided from 10:00 to 11:30 am by Southern Illinois Healthcare. Informational displays will be provided by Southern Illinois Healthcare, The Women's Center, Institute on Equity in Healthcare, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, Shawnee Health Services, Jackson County Health Department, SIU Dental Hygiene, Gold's Gym and many others. Information on HIV/AIDS, PSA testing, prostate cancer, dental health, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and many others will be available from 10:00-2:00 pm.
A panel at 11:30 am will feature discussion of topics that include: Health Promotion and Cardiovascular Disease by Ella Lacey, Ph.D., The HIV and AIDS Epidemic by Tony Wyatt, Health Disparities by Abdul Haqq, and Community Empowerment by Father Joseph Brown.
The cultural entertainment begins at 12:30 and will spotlight the Dedicated Men of Bethel, drummers, and the men of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity performing a step show. Healthy refreshments will be provided and door prize drawings will be held throughout the day.
