Timothy "Tim" Bowers, age 76, of Murphysboro, passed away at 2:45 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2009, at his residence in Murphysboro, Illinois.
 His body has been cremated and a memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 1, 2009, at the United Methodist Church in Murphysboro with Rev. Larry Gilbert and Rev. Earl Renshaw officiating.  Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation, TIP Hospice or the United Methodist Church.  Pettett Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
 Timothy was born on February 21, 1933, in Murphysboro, Illinois, to Clifton Bowers and Alice (Stout) Bowers.
 He served in the U.S. Army during the Army Occupation of Germany, and he was a member of the American Legion Post # 127 in Murphysboro.
 Tim started teaching Government and Driver's Education in 1958 at Murphysboro Township High School, where he also served as the Wrestling Coach and Assistant Football Coach.  He later served as principal of McElvain School and assistant Principal of Carruthers School.  He served as assistant principal and then principal of Murphysboro Township High School, and he was the Assistant Superintendent of Schools for Unit District # 186, where he retired in 1989.
 After retirement, he worked at the Regional Superintendent Office. He also was elected and served on the Jackson County School Board and served as alderman for the city of Murphysboro.
 In 2005, he received an award of merit from the Educational Council of 100.
 Tim married Virginia L. Spindloe on April 8, 1956, in Flora, Illinois and she survives.
 Other survivors include four daughters Amy Hutchings of Murphysboro, Laurie Miller of Owensboro, KY, Emily McCary and her husband Rod McCary of Studio City, CA, and Julia Cook and her husband Craig Cook of Oviedo, FL; nine grandchildren David Hutchings, Eliza Hutchings, Neill Hutchings, Jennifer Young, Rebekah Simmons, Evan Miller, Cooper McCary, Madison Cook, and Kennedy Cook; and two great grandsons Dusty Young and Dalton Simmons.
 He was preceded in death by one son Timothy S. Bowers on July 29, 2007, two brothers Cooper Bowers and Michael Bowers, two sisters Margaret Alice Smith and Mary Powers, and his parents.
