Dr. Lawrence A. Juhlin Jr., age 72, of Carbondale, died at 12:45PM, Thursday, January 7, 2010 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
He was born on December 26, 1937 in Atlanta, GA to Lawrence Alfred and Doris (South) Juhlin Sr. He married Marilyn Rasche on September 6, 1959. She survives him.
He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the adult choir and the bell choir. He was a former delegate to the Illinois Great Rivers Conference and Finance Commission. He graduated from Greenville College in Greenville, IL with Bachelor’s degree and from Syracuse University with a Master’s degree. He earned his PHD from SIU-C. He retired as Associate Vice President for Student Affairs at SIU-C. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He had a passion for genealogy and history of the old south. He was a member of the Carbondale Rotary Club and served on the Carbondale Liquor Advisory Board for several years.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Carbondale; 1 daughter, Carolyn (Doug) Autenrieth-Ritchie of Seattle, WA; 3 sons, Douglas (Vera) Juhlin of Roscoe, IL, David (Annette) Juhlin of Madison, WI and Steven (Ruth) Juhlin of Cape Girardeau, MO; 12 grandchildren, Michael Autenrieth, Sarah Juhlin, Kati Juhlin, Liz Juhlin, Levi Autenrieth, Rachel Juhlin, Grace Juhlin, Amanda Juhlin, Anna Juhlin, Emily Juhlin, Meghan Juhlin and Matthew Juhlin; 1 sister, Doris Juhlin of Fairview Park, OH; other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant daughter, Diane.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, January 11, 2010 at Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Sabo. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held from 4:00PM – 8:00PM, Sunday, January 10, 2010 at Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home, Old Rt. 13 between Carbondale and Murphysboro and from 9:00 – 11:00AM, Monday, January 11, 2010 at Grace United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made to the Rotary Club or Grace United Methodist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home or the church.
