Carl Lee Bateman, age 72, of DeSoto, formerly of Ava, died at 2:50AM, Monday, February 8, 2010 at Union County Hospital in Anna.
He was born on August 26, 1937 in Carbondale, IL to Russell and Violet (Chamness) Bateman. 
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in DeSoto.  He was a life long farmer.  He liked to walk barefoot and loved to swim and ride horses.
He is survived by 3 uncles, Bob Bateman of Murphysboro and Ben Chamness and Sam Chamness, both of Marion; numerous cousins and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00AM, Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home, Old Rt 13 between Carbondale and Murphysboro.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home with Mark Carvins officiating.  Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to City Care Center in Cobden and will be accepted at the Funeral Home.
