Richard Michael Plantz, age 64 of Marion, formerly of Collinsville, passed from this life at 12:58AM, Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at home with his family by his side.
He was born on August 29, 1945, in East St. Louis, the son of Leonard and Pauline LaRoux. On September 27, 1975 he was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Miller of Murphysboro.
For many years he worked as a manager for Zales Jewelry. In 1975 he went to work for the United Parcel Service in Marion, retiring in 2000 after 25 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served for three years including an assignment in Germany.
He was a skilled carpenter working on his own house, building and remodeling the homes of his children and friends. He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 710. Richard never met a stranger and was always lending a hand to family, friends, neighbors and especially his Church. He worshiped at Life Church in Marion.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, three daughters and a son, Lisa (Jeff) Rice of Granite City, Aimee (Joe) Bradley of Silvis, Tiffany (Gary) Braden of Herrin, and Richard (Tina) Plantz of Collinsville;
Eleven grandchildren, Taira, Bradley, Samantha, Jessica, Claire, BreeAna, Brittanee, Ginger, Summer, Jenna and Allen; and one great grandchild, Charleigh Jo. He is also survived by two brothers, Bob Plantz and Frank LaRoux, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jim and a sister, Pat.
Services will be held at 3:00PM, Saturday, October 3, 2009 at Life Church, Route 37 North, Marion with Pastor John Parton officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park with military rites by VFW Post 7190 & 2605, American Legion Post 127 and DAV Chapter 69.
Visitation will precede the service from 11:00AM ñ 3:00PM at the church.
Memorials may be made to Life Church and will be accepted at the church.
