Hi,
How many of you out there remember the guy who used to come around in the evenings with his wagon shouting, "Hot Tamales - Red Hot Tamales For Sale!!!"
I know we always looked forward to buying hot tamales from him. They were 10 cents each, and so delicious! My mother used to make them once in a while, and they were also very good.
Then there was the man - "The Ice Cream Man!" who came by daily with all kinds of goodies. He always was a popular guy, with all of the kids looking forward to his daily treats. I know in our neighborhood these guys were very popular with the kids and their parents.
My mom used to make delicious homemade bread, cheese, sausage, and she knew how to make spaghetti dishes several ways. I used to make homemade bread when all my children were here. But since they've grown up and have their own places I buy the frozen loaves of bread. I call that, "Lazy Bread," but I think it's pretty good, so easy to bake, and a heck of a lot less work.
Since I'm getting older, I'm always looking for short cuts in all I do. I guess I don't have as much energy or ambition as I used to have. You know the old saying, "The Old Grey Mare Ain't What She Used To Be." There comes a time in your life that you have to slow down.
My gem... A house is made of walls and beams, but a home is made of love and dreams.
Today, I have a poem, "When I'm An Old Lady."

When I'm An Old Lady

When I'm an old lady, I'll live with my kids,
And make them so happy, just as they did.
I want to pay back all the joy they provided,
Returning each deed. Oh, they'll be so excited.
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)
I'll write on the wall with reds, whites and blues,
And bounce on the furniture wearing my shoes.
I'll drink from the carton and then leave it out.
I'll stuff all the toilets, and oh, how they'll shout.
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)
When they're on the phone and just out of reach,
I'll get into things like sugar and bleach,
Oh, they'll snap their fingers and then shake their head
And when that is done I'll hide under the bed.
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)
When they cook dinner and call me to meal,
I'll not eat my green beans or salads congealed.
I'll gag on my okra, spill milk on the table
And when they get angry, run fast as I'm able.
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)
I'll lay on the floor throw tantrums and kick
I'll cross both my eyes to see if they stick.
I'll take off my socks and throw one away,
And play in the mud until the end of the day.
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)
And later in bed, I'll lay back and sigh,
And thank God in prayer and then close my eyes
And my kids will look down with a smile slowly creeping,
And say with a groan, "She's so sweet when she's sleeping."
