Hi,
You know, Grandma's ordinarily have very few places to go for a little past-time and recreation.
Most of them like to play Bingo, and we meet a lot of people that way. We used to have Bingo at several places in Murphysboro, but since the American Legion, K.C.'s, and the V.F.W. clubs don't have Bingo anymore. Only one club in town, the Elk's, has Bingo. They play on Monday nights, and we really appreciate them a lot!
Thank goodness we have a group of four in our neighborhood who get together a lot. We play cards several evenings during the week, and we enjoy that.
I'm thinking of the things that I still like to do to pass the time away. I do a lot of reading and watch TV, mostly the game shows. I also watch the Cardinals' ball games. I enjoy them the most when they win (ha ha), and I like to figure out Wonder Word in the "Find The Word Games."
I still like to get out and visit with old-time friends, who I don't see very often. I've been busy all of my life. I went to work at the Brown Shoe Factory when I was 14 years old. That was during the Great Depression. I've spent a lot of time working as a volunteer.
Since I retired from the Post Office as a rural mail carrier, I volunteered at the hospital, nursing home, and at the Senior Citizen's Center. But I've slowed down lately. I don't stand very long, or walk too much. So I'm taking it easy now, and only doing sitting jobs.
My gem... The best flattery is imitation.
Today I have a poem entitled, "Where the Pills Go."

WHERE THE PILLS GO

A row of bottles on my shelf
Caused me to analyze myself.
One yellow pill I have to pop
Goes to my heart so it won't stop.
A little white one that I take
Goes to my hands so they won't shake.
The blue on that I use a lot
Tells me I'm happy when I'm not.
The purple pill goes to my brain
And tells me that I have no pain.
The capsule tells me not to wheeze
Or cough or sneeze.
The red one, smallest of them all,
Goes to my head so I won't fall.
Such an array of brilliant pills,
Helping cure all kinds of ills.
But what I'd really like to know
Is what tells each pill where to go!
