Hi,
I went to Riverside Park recently to watch the Murphysboro Clarkes vintage base ball team play the Springfield Long Line team.
This a group of me of all ages, and their rules are a lot different from regular baseball. I was watching the game with my daughter Patti and her husband Dennis. Two of their sons --- Kyle and Todd --- and their grandson Ty, all play on the Springfield team. I have a great nephew, Jim Bailey, who plays for the Clarkes, so all I could do was root for both teams.
They played a doubleheader, but I had to leave after the first game, which Springfield won. My daughter is supposed to let me know how the second game turned out.
I also attended the American Legion Memorial Service on Memorial Day. It was very impressive, with the raising of the flag, National Anthem, welcome speech and prayer, guest speaker Paul Christenson, Benediction, 21 gun salute, and taps. It was a lovely salute and honor to all veterans, and a delicious buffet lunch was served at the Legion following the ceremony.
My daughter Frances just got home from visiting her grandson, and my great grandson, Jayson Stevens, who recently received an award fro beinf "Marine of the Quarter," in his company. L.C.P.L. Stevens is currently working as a mechanic at Camp Lejeune. We are very proud of his accomplishments. Congratulations Jayson!
My gem... When the mouth stumbles, it's worse than the foot.
Today, I have a beautiful prayer that I received in the mail.
A BEAUTIFUL PRAYER
I asked God to take away my habit.
God said, No.
It is not for me to take away, but for you to give it up.
I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.
God said, No.
His spirit is whole, his body is only temporary.
I asked God to grant me patience.
God said, No.
Patience is a byproduct of tribulations;
it isn't granted, it is learned.
I asked God to give me happiness.
God said, No.
I give you blessings; Happiness is up to you.
I asked God to spare me pain.
God said, No.
Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares and brings you closer to me.
I asked God to make my spirit grow.
God said, No.
You must grow on your own!
But I will prune you to make you fruitful.
I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life.
God said, No.
I will give you life, so that you may enjoy all things.
I asked God to help me Love others, as much as He loves me.
God said... Ahhhh, finally you have the idea.
This day is yours, don't throw it away.
May God bless you.
