Hi,
I want to wish a nice lady who lives in Chester a Happy Birthday.
Dawn Bryant Turner was 40 years old on Jan. 15. I hope you had a Happy Birthday, and I want to wish you many more happy and healthy birthdays. Dawns is a former Murphysboro resident, and she is the mother of by great grandson. She holds a special place in our hearts. She's a very nice person!
A bunch of us volunteers for the Senior Citizens of Murphysboro were treated to a delicious dinner at Golden Corral on Saturday. It was appreciated. Those attending were the officers of the club, Frances Weber (President), Betty Sarensen (First Vice President), Mickey Korando (Second Vice President), Angie Schiro (Treasurer), Nettie Graff (Secretary), Mary Easton (Manager of the re-sale shop), Bea Ann Bowers, Tootie Vancil, Judy Bittle, Joan Durbin, Marie Schumacher, Delores Roseland, Phylis Crombar, and Mary Chaney. We have several more volunteers who were unable to make it. Our volunteers work in the re-sale shop, do some desk work, some are in the Kitchen Band, or do whatever needs to be done. They also answer the phone, schedule the van trips, take in dues, etc...
The dinner was very good, and there were quite a few dishes to choose from. There were 14 who went and enjoyed the dinner. Thanks to the ones who thought of this treat!
My gem... I am fully aware that my youth has been spent, "my get up and go has got up and went." But I really don't mind when I think with a grin, of all the great places my "get-up" has been.
Today I have a poem titled, "Why Be A Volunteer."
WHY BE A VOLUNTEER
It's not for money, it's not for fame.
It's not for any personal gain.
It's not just for love of fellow man,
It's just to reach out with a helping hand.
It's just to give a little of self.
That's something that can't be bought with wealth.
It's not for medals worn with pride.
It's more of a feeling you hold inside.
It's that reward deep in your heart,
It's a feeling that you have been a part,
Of helping others, far and near,
That's what makes you a volunteer.
