Blue Devils win conference

The Murphysboro Blue Devils 8th grade boys basketball team won three of four regular season games recently.
Murphysboro began the four-game span with a 51-30 victory over Chester, using a 32-12 advantage over the middle two periods to blow the game open. Cody Mileur led the Blue Devils with 15 points, while Steven Eldridge and Dondre Eldridge combined for 22.
Up next was a game against Nashville, which came in undefeated in the conference. But the Blue Devils jumped out to an early 12-2 lead, then coasted to a 55-33 win.
With the win, Murphysboro claimed the conference crown with a record of 11-1. Mileur and Jonathan Kemp had 15 points apiece in the win.
Murphysboro followed that victory with an easy 49-21 win over Anna. The Blue Devils then dropped a 49-45 decision to Carbondale.
Murphysboro fell behind, 18-7, and trailed, 36-25, heading into the fourth quarter. But the Blue Devils picked up the intensity, and eventually tied the game at 43-43 with a minute remaining. But Carbondale regained the lead, then knocked down a couple of late free throws to pick up the win.
Murphysboro finished the regular season with a record of 13-5.
