On Monday, August 2, the case against a juvenile suspect in the homicide of 15-year-old Pinckneyville runaway Sidnee Stephens was transferred from juvenile court into adult court. The transfer was conducted at a court hearing Monday morning in Perry County Court.
The third suspect, Robby Mueller, 15, of Pinckneyville, was charged with one count of first degree murder and one count of first degree murder (accountability).
That strategic move transfers Mueller from the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center back to the Perry County Jail at a savings of between $80 and $100 a day.
The financial weight of the growing case stands a chance of draining most of the sheriff’s, state’s attorney’s and judicial system’s resources over the
next several months.
Mueller was incarcerated in the Perry County Jail and ordered held without bond.
The investigation is continuing. No other information is available, according to Sheriff Keith Kellerman.
Mueller joins defendants Carl Dane, 18, and James Glazier, 17, in the murder of Stephens. Investigators continued interviews over the weekend with persons of interest, specifically those somehow connected with the Pinckneyville Saints juvenile gang. Sheriff Keith Kellerman is still sorting out the significance of that gang in this case.
Kellerman said at a Friday press conference Stephens had been choked, strangled and shot one or more times. Investigators called the murder “senseless” with several lives being wasted in the process. If convicted, Dane is the only one eligible for the death penalty.
