Recently, students at Saint Andrew Catholic School of Murphysboro raised money to help send a group of 14 people to Port De Paix Haiti. This was promoted by teacher Jan Koberstein in hopes of helping out the mission team from her home town of Washington, IN. The team is made up of people mostly from Antioch Christian Church in Washington, IN and is comprised of men, women, and children of all ages.
The team will be serving and witnessing in the Port de Paix area (120 miles north of the capital city of Port Au Prince) mainly at the Christian Organization of Sonlight Academy.
With Voodoo deeply planted in Haiti's history and culture, the need to spread the light of Jesus is very much needed. Haiti is a land of extremes: Extreme poverty, extreme beauty, and an extreme need for Jesus.
Sonlight Academy hosts these trips and this is where the teams do most of the work. The team will not only be leading and teaching music classes for the children in the school, but will also be helping with construction, painting, and any need that arises.
For more information about the mission to Haiti you can to to www.sonlightministries.org or www.acclife.org.
Because service is an important aspect of Saint Andrew School, Mrs. Koberstein wanted the students to begin their year living the message of Jesus that they are called to follow. That message being: Love our neighbor.
Students were asked to donate at least a dollar. Donations are being collected Friday, Aug. 20, 27, and Sept. 3. With the help of her Kindergartners, Mrs. Koberstein will go to each classroom where the students can give their donations and she teaches a brief lesson on Haiti. Students are asked if they are not able to donate financially, to keep the team members in their prayers, that they will safely and successfully take the light of Christ out into the world.
If anyone would like to donate, they can do so b getting the donation to Jan Koberstein at Saint Andrew School. Make checks out to ACC Haiti Mission Fund. It can be mailed to Jan Koberstein, 723 Mulberry St. Murphysboro, I 62966. Donations need to be made by September 3.
Thank you for reaching out tho those who are reaching out to our neighbors in another country.
